Coming Home to Ourselves
Navigating a Challenging World by Connecting with Our Inner Wisdom
We already have all the wisdom we need within us.
The challenge is learning how to listen.
Dr. Shana Johnston
I’m Dr. Shana Johnston. I have been a family practice and maternity doctor since 1998. I am a very empathic person and feel things very deeply. This was a huge asset when it came to supporting my patients through the many challenges of living this human life. It also made me more sensitive to the challenges of working in a volume-based system, where I had to run from one patient encounter to the next every 10 minutes. This ultimately led to my “burnout” in August 2020 and leaving my practice in April 2021. As part of my healing journey, I created a group medical visit called “Connecting in Community” where I brought women together to explore some of the tools I was using on my healing journey and later recorded an online version called “Reclaiming our Power, Reclaiming Ourselves” in order to make it available to more women.
In August 2023, the hormone changes of menopause really ramped up and sent me into a bit of a tailspin. It took me several months to regain my footing but I learned so much about myself in the process. This challenging journey inspired me to create my latest course “Coming Home to Ourselves at Midlife” helping women navigate the rocky hormonal journey of the menopausal transition.
What a gift it has been to be a part of “Connecting in Community” with Dr. Shana Johnston. I look forward each week to connecting with a group of women who make me feel so heard. Shana and the group participants have created such a supportive and loving environment and the connections, stories, and tools that I’ve gained in being a part of this group will stick with me for the rest of my life.
This has been such a great experience. My life is changing for the better both mentally and physically. These sessions are the highlight of my week and I look forward to spending time listening and sharing with these awesome women. It’s amazing that I’ve only known these women for such a short time but because of the way we connect they truly feel like sisters!
Dr Johnston is a really insightful woman who encourages support, empathy and growth with the participants of this group.
I am so grateful to Dr. Johnston for creating this circle of trust and connection that is so powerful and yet so simple for us to integrate into our busy lives. No matter how busy, intense or tiring my week has been, I leave each session feeling lighter, more grounded and so very connected to the other incredible women.
Shana creates a warm, safe and welcoming space. She empathizes with people in a way that helps them feel heard and seen. I highly recommend Shana’s work.
It has been a very positive experience being able to be part of the Connecting in Community group, and I am so grateful to Shana and all the women I’ve met and got to connect with. The group has helped me feel more grounded, more aware, more human as well as given me more self-compassion and an amazing sense of support.
